Let me preface this by saying that no, I am not as active as many of you other participants on this site, and I recognize that the point of this is to have fun in a supportive, non-demonizing environment. But when I was scrolling through the site and checking out the feed earlier, I came across something that is and was absolutely unacceptable:



I don't think I have to go too far into what's upsetting about this. But for the sake of being clear, I'll go ahead and say the obvious: Phoenix Winterborn (screen name: Sanatorium Phoenix) is referencing Kanye West and Jay-Z's song "N*ggas in Paris". However, trying to be hilarious (and failing miserably), he replaced "N*ggas" with "gorillas". In using "gorillas" as a synonym to "n*ggas", Phoenix Winterborn is clearly using a dated, derogatory comparison between black people and apes. If you believe this screen grab is doctored, I invite you to go check out the actual post on the EAW Feed. It's their, folks.

Like I said, I recognize that this is a fantasy wrestling site with fantasy characters, but this guy is clearly making a blatantly racist remark that makes me, and I'm sure others, extremely uncomfortable. This is not the type of thing that can be written off just because he's "in character". In character or not, racism should absolutely not be tolerated anywhere, especially within a community site like this which I'm sure has plenty of African-Americans. 

Knowing that this site has punished, banned, and/or fired racists like Phoenix Winterborn in the past, I think it's only right that the board intervene in this atrocity and fire Phoenix Winterborn immediately. Nobody in EAW should have a racist character to begin with, but having one clearly says something about the handler behind the character. 

I ask that anyone who supports this notion of implementing justice to respond down in the comments with how they feel about the situation. I know that I may just be more offended than others, but I know I can't be the only one here that thinks that it's unacceptable to even be subtly making that kind of joke around here. And if anyone on the board happens to be reading this, please know that I would be incredibly disappointed with a site of this caliber if something like this went unpunished. Racism should not be acceptable on a platform like this.

Except that the context that I was using the other term was for the following reasons:

1) I do not use the 'n' word in any context unless I have been given personal permission by the individuals I am with.

2) The line of the sing I'm referring to is as follows "Got my n****s in Paris, and they goin gorillas."
