| Former WWE Superstar & UFC Figher CM Punk was recently interviewed by Sports Illustrated. When asked what made him a good pro wrestler, Punk responded with the following: “Well, that’s another thing in that phony world. What does it mean to be a good fake wrestler? That’s an identity crisis that I think I struggled with. It doesn’t matter if you’re the best; someone else picks who they want in the top spot.” When asked why more of his former pro wrestling peers haven’t made the move to MMA, Punk said: “I’ve always been surrounded by guys who talked about it. Half of them talk about it; none of them do it. They have their little comfortable safety net doing WWE stuff, I guess. I would much rather give it a shot than just talk about it.” |

| Loss of respect for the "phony world" part, but he's 100% right about how they pick who's on top. The best doesn't have to be the face of the company - which we are well-aware of. |

| He's 100 percent right. 100,000 percent right. It is a phony, passive aggressive, bitch made world in the WWE and being the best wrestler doesnt matter. If it did Daniel Bryan would be getting the run on top he deserves. Weve had a guy who literally cant hit a decent dropkick to save his life, does an STF with his forearms visibly away from his opponents face and has a basic high school wrestling move done as his finisher and he's the face of the biggest wrestling company on earth. How the fuck is he wrong brehs?
btw these quotes were put out of context by WZ. Read the full interview, you'll see exactly what he's saying. it's not about being salty, he's telling it like it is. He's not an apologist, he's not a corporate shill, which is exactly why I respect him. |

| Punks right though, Hulk Hogan was never ''the best'' at Wrestling, he just knew how to work a crowd and he was on top in two different companies for 15 years.
Hell, Randy Orton would be a effin jobber if wrestling skills actually mattered. |

| Good interview. He seems bitter about his time in WWE, but I can't really blame him for that. I would feel the same in his position. He's a good guy. |

| He's not wrong, but he's also not Dolph Ziggler, Cody Rhodes, Scotty Goldman or Cesaro either. The guy had the longest WWE world title reign in recent history, holding the belt through injury that he chose to go on the road with while championing himself as the WWE title holder with the company's full support of him on top.
I kind of hate Punk for the same reasons I hate Bret Hart. He's a mark for himself, and an even bigger mark for being considered the 'face of the company'. And it's really sad, because I want to like Punk, but the more layers that get peeled back, the more I realize he's a low self esteem having little napoleon who doesn't care who he drags down with him as long as his final words are THE final word, and those final words are 'I'm right'.
I get that WWE management can be a bag of dicks sometimes, but few guys have ever made it as far up the card as Punk, and even fewer were given the same creative liberties that Punk was given, even when he was Mr. Midcard on Smackdown with the Straight Edge Society. |
