| Subject: An Inevitable Decision... November 8th 2017, 9:41 pm | |
| ...One I can no longer put off.
I'm not going to mince words, for this honestly has been inevitable for awhile now: The Lannister character is taking a "leave". I refuse to use the word retirement, but that's essentially what is going on. It'll take something of rather big proportions to yield me into another match. I've been joking the past month or so that I need to find a way to get myself fired, not just to lighten the mood, but because in the back of my mind, knowing that soon I'd probably have to make a post announcing my resignation. EAW is a hobby, one I must philosophically leave behind. I've been very busy of late, and that is only going to manifest over the next coming months. I've been chopping hobbies left and right, and EAW is just next on the list.
Not going to lie, this decision is based upon my aspirations in life. I have recently decided to take a "go" at law school, once I graduate in a few years. And that means the process is going to start soon in preparation for the LSATs. And I don't mean to be harsh when saying this, but a lot of "distractions" need to be cut in my life, and that includes efedding/showing up to EAW as often I currently do. I'm not going to be gone, at least right away - see it more as a gradual descending process. I will always maintain that the community is something that must be held sacred, and there are great relationships I've had on here that are hard to replicate elsewhere. But that doesn't change my circumstance all the same, and I definitely will just be a burden to the writers and fellow board over the longhaul.
I always joke about being too lazy to promo, but really I've been busting my ass at Penn State to amend for my lackluster 4th semester a few years back. So this was always going to be inevitable once I decided to go back to school. I know I don't owe anybody an explanation, and I surely don't want to hear comments like "Yeah, we understand! Real life comes first!" - because trust me, noted. Understanding has nothing to do with it, but EAW as a whole will always be apart of me, much like it'll always be apart of all of you, regardless what walk of life you wander. So I announce this knowing this is the breaking point in which everything changes, at least regarding my ability to continue to to truly build on relationships I've had with the lot of you. It's bittersweet of course, and I'll always cherish the memories of the past 4 years especially.
Lannister will always be my greatest "Efed decision" - one I'll always be proud of. As someone who could never stay consistent, I feel I proved my worth as a promoer and a creator over the past few years. My former nature showcased itself slightly in 2016, but I was able to amend for that in the fall. Last year served as the hallmark of what I was capable of doing when I was 100% motivated, and I'm glad to have been given the opportunity to essentially be EAW's top guy. Trust me, that was indeed an honor, one I had never expected due to my past. Definitely consummated my long tenure with the community, which now eclipses 10 years. I'll never regret the decision, or consider my involvement with all of you a wasted effort of time.
Brian, Robbie, and Jay have admittedly kept me involved in the day-to-day efed operations longer than I could ever have imagined. So to them, I want to give them a personal shout out, for always having my back, for motivating me every step of the way. DEDEDE, I mean it when I say you've changed EAW forever. Thank you for the opportunity to make EAW a platform to call my own. I hope the rest of the community realizes all you do for them, all you do to ensure EAW is a safe platform, all the while keeping it fun and creatively-inviting. The structure of the board has never been better, regardless of all the shit thrown their way the past year or so. Robbie, DDD, Brian, Tre, Senn, Oasis, Ronn, Xavier... EAW is lucky to have all of them. Don't take them for granted, EAW.
But beyond the board, I've obviously made quite a bit of great relationships with most of EAW. Senn, RRS, and HBG in particular, thank you for being great friends throughout my entire tenure. Dub, Xavier, Jamie, Tarah, Aria, Nas, Finn, Amani, Moongoose, Stark, Hawk, Lars, TLA, Sher, Imp, DC, Keelan, Nico, Tomi, Cam, Rex... among other names I've probably missed: You're all fucking awesome. You all are great to converse with, have made me laugh, put up with my antics, and hopefully I made as much of a positive impact on your psyche as you have mine. I definitely don't intend to be a stranger. I'd also be amiss to not name Norman Hellion, either. A fantastic friend from when he was in EAW, definitely one of the names early that kept me involved. We miss you, Norman. Lioncross as well, someone all in EAW should take advice from. And of course, Brody - you were the heart of EAW, always keeping the mood light. I wish I could list you among the other names I've aforementioned. Your presence will always be apart of us, an example to abide towards, to appreciate anyone and everyone, to lighten up a little, and just simply live and love life.
So I suppose I'll leave with that. I'm definitely still going to be around, but as time continues to pass, I'm going to gradually be more focused on academia, therefore gradually less involved. I just wanted to thank you all for helping make EAW a transformative experience for me. I don't have a philosophical priority to participating in EAW anymore, but that's okay. EAW will be okay, as it always has been. Lean on one another, appreciate each other's company, don't take it all too seriously - this is a hobby. A hobby to cherish, but one I sadly cannot participate in further. But one, I'll gladly reminisce with. The debt has been paid, EAW.
Lannister sends his sincerest regards.

| Best of luck man. I sincerely hope you do well because, lord knows, I think you deserve it. I want to take this chance to thank you for everything. Your early encouragement was a big boost to me when I was starting to find my feet on Showdown. You've been a great, fun guy to chat with. And you happily took the brunt of my frustrations when news about Brody broke (I should once again apologize for that). Anyway. Don't be a stranger. This isn't goodbye... |

| I feel like it happens more and more now, but you made the right choice. You're making a hell of an investment in your future and I'm so happy for you! Everything that you're taking on won't necessarily be easy, but I know that you can do it. In all the time you've been here, you've been not only one of my favorite promoers and characters to follow, but just straight up one of my favorite people to talk to and I'm glad that we've become friends. Now you get to move onto this exciting next chapter and chase this dream of eventually going to law school. Promise that you won't ever resort to European uppercutting opposing council, though. Best of luck with everything! You got this. |

| Everyone else has already said what I would've but I will miss you being on chat, raving about Penn State and roasting Fudge and all that. You're definitely one of my favorite people here and getting name dropped by such a legend has my ass shook. I wish you luck with the rest of college and law school. I might be going that way myself. As stated above, don't be a stranger. I will always greet my King, Lannister. |

1. Lets all laugh at the fact Jamie O'Hara will never beat Lannister.
2. If the whole Law School thing doesn't work out, you can always come back and be a "Moongoose Boy"
3. Best of luck......."friend".... ugh, the pain.... of saying that. |

I'll always appreciate everything and anything you've said or done for me in my time here and every match we had I wouldn't change. It's going to suck not to see the Lannister character around anymore but life is life and I'm sure there's many more who will make the same decision sooner rather than later. I wish you all the best in your aspirations with your education and going to law school; you deserve all the success in the world. |

| Not to make this about me, but this is part why I slowly petered out after winning CITV and eventually left. This is a decision we'll all have to make eventually, and I hope everyone will be able to find something moving forward that gives them motivation and energy, because law in his case & nursing in my case take up a ton of time. A lot of things take up a ton of time. But hey, I'm sure we'll still manage to chat about sports. Maybe it'll be cut down to major trades and playoffs.
But damn, I'm happy you didn't get yourself fired. We needed more of us to leave this place on good terms. |

Jokes aside, your presence as a writer will he sorely missed, the whole Lannister character in general. Either having sports related conversation or anything in general you were easily someone was fun to talk to when given the chance. Good luck and do come back as without you EAW will miss out on a King. |

Happy trails Ken, we never talked like ever, but you were a goat opponent. Have fun in Law school, I'm sure it's just barrels of fun. | Well, being that I just stumbled upon this as I was venturing the forum, I thought I shouldn't be bashful and leave a few words.
First of all, congrats! I didn't know at all about this part of your life, but I'm very happy that you are taking this opportunity to pursue other life aspirations that can only take you far in it. Secondly, I'm very sad like most to see the Lannister character descending for one last time. It was a great pleasure to have had at least one opportunity to promo against you, for it showed me more than a few things that I've been able to take with me up to now. You were always a very good example to follow in many regards during all of my time here. You were always very kind, and complimentary of many who have worked hard to be as big of part of this community as anyone else, and the efforts we put out. Always very encouraging. Thank you for that.
Like many have said in some form or another. It may be so long for now, but not goodbye. I'll always be around unless of course if I'm not, but I'll definitely be here to chat when I see you on discord. Good luck in life, and may you experience nothing but the best! Take care Ken.

| Not going to pretend that I am all that surprised by this announcement seeing as how much we've talked outside of EAW over the past few months. The writing was on the wall through all the jokes that a decision like this would have to be made eventually. It doesn't make it any less impactful though. If there was a dream opponent in EAW thread on the board (if there is I haven't found it / remember it.) I am sure Lannister would be in the top three names, if not the very top. I came in around the time of Road to Redemption last year when Lannister cashed in on Pizza Boy and I thought to myself; wow, what a dick. Actually getting to talk to you hasn't changed that statement by any means as playing Friday the 13th with you are both some of the most fun and most infuriating gaming experiences I have had in recent memory (As Jason specifically, fuck you.) Not gonna pretend this is goodbye because we're still going to be playing shitty video games together, but it's a damn shame that we'll possibly never get Lannister vs Wakefield. Life comes first, and I believe it's the right decision you've made to focus on your studies. |

| Hey man, absolute best of luck to you in your future endeavors. I'll tell the truth - I was surprised to read this and here it coming from you. You'd always joke about being fired and protesting against writing, but I assumed it was just playful banter and jokes to lighten up the mood, not that you had some IRL shit happening. This makes me feel sad, but I won't keep my head down. You were, without a doubt, one of the best promoers that I've seen in my time here in EAW, nothing can match the Lannister character. But you were also one of the funniest, and down to earth guys I've ever met. Always willing to help me out, and make me laugh out loud. If, only for a selfish reason - I wish I could've faced you before you inevitably left. You were someone who I admired and strived to be like, and I'm so grateful for how supportive you've always been of me, even when everyone else thought different. Thanks for everything.
Take care dad Ken. |
