I've been debating this for a while but I'd like to leave this open to all of you: Should Mortimer be a modern type of chap who prefers to act like a gentleman or should her act like he's actually from the 1920's?

Gonna say that's really up to you and maybe the writers. How you play it will effect how they write it and vice versa. Trust your gut and promo your heart out.

It's your character and so I think you can modify it anyway you want. Its your playground and you make the rules. However, you might want to talk to your writers first and inform them about it. Since the writers sometimes plan storylines about you based on your character, it's better to inform them first

Like Mike said, you have the cards in your hand. Focus on the change and most important, TELL YOUR WRITERS ABOUT IT.

I personally dig the first one, but honestly , it's up to you. I know everyone else has said it, but do something you're comfortable with, that's what most important.
