He does all these things because he doesn't want to have a friendship with anyone. He believes that friends and fans would distract him from focusing on wrestling thus making him a weaker performer.
In addition, Locke is a guy who thinks he knows his opponents better than they do. He thinks they are all phonies and is on a mission to reveal the truth, hence the nickname.
