Welp, I fancy myself a fan of tabletop rpgs (though I tend to shy away from D&D and Pathfinder because convoluted rules) and have been looking around for an interesting one. I have found one, that I have begun to play today that is absolutely incredible and I would like to advertise and here anyone's opinions on it.
https://shattered-rpg.com/
This is Shattered. A dark steampunk roleplay...something that I didn't think would ever be created but here it is. It's a strange genre to say the least but it has a very interesting premise and has proven surprisingly fun. One of the most enjoyable things about it is that it's a very open ended roleplay. It doesn't have a class system like most others. You could design your character like I did: building a very intimidating gunslinger vampire with little to no magic ability but a living arsenal of bullets. You could wield six swords telepathically while also mowing down enemies with minions you raised from the dead known as Stitches. It's so open ended that it leaves so much run for everything!
This rpg even has an interesting story.
Before the Dark Age fell, humanity had built vast empires. Nothing could match the technological power wielded by its inhabitants. Bathed in the comfort of prosperity, they became complacent and weak having forgotten the ruinous powers that reached from disregarded realms and dimensions. Chief among these was one named Ragnarok, whose dark power corrupted the minds of men and women alike. Ragnarok assembled his following and commanded them to perform a brutal and twisted ritual. Ultimately, the ritual failed causing devastation in its wake. The power held by Ragnarok’s believers reverberated back onto the planet, crumbling cities, turning over entire tectonic plates, and claiming an untold number of lives. The oceans boiled away, replaced by a bed of molten rock. A winter began that would last for generations to come. Indeed, this was humanity’s darkest hour. Nightmarish creatures lurk in the shadows. Filled to the brim with murderous espionage, political subterfuge, and uncounted other crimes against man and nature; all things being done in the name of progress. This world is a foreboding, devastated place. After a three thousand year winter, civilization endeavors to claw its way through to a new technological age.
But...there are races...and aren't they interesting. Shall I talk of them?
Humans: The typical races of most rpgs, Humans in this are not so much predominant but they are just as egotistical as they would be in any other game. Since most races seemingly are based around "Old Humanity" they believe themselves to be superior. However...they may possibly be correct. They are vast and diverse, and have thrived in this apocalyptic world.
Alypse: The remorseful race that is believed to have begun the destruction of the world around them. Alypse began a ritual that would have summoned Ragnorok a demon that would have destroyed the world. Hiding themselves in "Flesh Masks" they try to keep themselves hidden from the world around them. Their deceptive nature however actually puts them into high ranking portions of society...oddly enough. They are serpentine beings and some of the strangest beings in Shattered but not the weirdest.
Drones: Soooo...yeah...you can also play as a Drone, a machine being designed to tend to the "Giants". Drones have broken free of their command and have built their own city. They often are thinkers, tending to use logic over force, if whenever possible.
Vampires: SOOOOOO!!!! Vampires are former humans that, during the destruction of the world, hid in the caves. The toxic fumes and other gasses that entered into the caves mutated the humans: pale skin, red orange or yellow eyes, elongated canines, bisected mouths, and a new sinister yet seductive look. The life in the darkness gifted their eyes with excellent night vision, while being weakened to the uv rays of the sun. They can however resist its effects by either wearing heavy clothing or...drinking blood.
Shade: Elves don't exist...these are known as Shades. Discovered in the Glass Forest the Shade's are unable to communicate vocally, having had to hide from the beasts that roam there. Instead they speak through telepathic images, to everyone. This is rather disconcerting when people that don't do this begin to hear voices in their minds urging them to "give them their swords".
Wretched: Humans that have been heavily mutated by the effects of the destruction of the earth. They are able to tap into their mutations, further enhancing their bodies while also living as nomadic war mongering beasts. Natural enemies of Vampires due to their bloodborne traits, Wretched are very brutal beings, known for their cruelty.
Rekindled: WHAT THE FUCK?! Ok...so these beings are known as Rekindled, humans that have died, whose wills were too strong to submit to the void. These beings return to their bodies, putting them back together and reforging it. Their disturbing appearances lead many people to fear them...they are physically weak...or at least tend to be. They make up for this with high levels of will power however...
Tell me what you guys think, I may actually be able to do something on here with this if you all are interested.
