People need to not write themselves into a corner with the sexism thing. Its absolutely deplorable that the women make less than I do. But its equally ridiculous to even suggest they should make as much as most of their male counter parts. Watching the women's world cup, I can truly say that none of the women's teams would be able to beat a top men's national squad. Germany/Spain/Brazil alone would stomp any of them. The top players are up there in women's and very talented, but by god the talent drop off is so ridiculous. They should be paid as professionals, but certainly not the same as the men

but who is at fault here? when athletes sign contracts they have to negotiate their salaries with general managers. and studies have shown that women are less likely to negotiate for their salaries when compared to men. also, when you say that they are making less than you is a rather confusing statement because i have no point of reference at how much money you are making. possibly for reference you should send me over a couple of your pay stubs and social security number and maybe even your bank account info just for good measure.

To be fair when it comes to wage equality, does woman soccer draw as much as man? I've watched and heard about fifa for years casually with family, never have I seen a women's soccer match. Hell, the only women in sports I ever hear about are the ones in tennis, plus for Olympics gymnastics and ice skating.

Still, this sounds sketchy and something should be done.

There's no way in hell they should be living in poverty because they choose to play their favorite sport for a living. It's no secret that the WNBA isn't nearly as popular as NBA, I don't think I've ever seen a WNBA game actually, but tell me how many of those girls are making less than minimum wage.

Well I don't disagree with you. But it should be kept in mind that WNBA is linked to americans, while FIFA I believe is ran elsewhere, I don't even know if they believe in the concept of minimum wage or would have the bar Americans would expect from minimum wage at home.

It's a sad situation that players are only making that much, but until women's professional sports get more popular with the population at large, I'm not sure what can be done.

It's interesting that US Soccer and MLS don't seem to care much about women's professional soccer despite the fact that the US Women's National Team is becoming a bigger brand by the day and has been much more successful than the Men.

It does seem stupid how they get 7k a year for kicking a ball about. Though I do complain that male professionals earn way too much for doing something I could do easily. Way to much, it is fucking stupid as fuck how people could earn like a million per match or whatever and then women are earning 7k. Maybe they can stop being greedy tight bastards and divide that money that MALE professionals earn to not just the army but women footballers too. 

I don't watch football but I am aware how footballers earn way too much, it is sad

There's one major problem with this though: There's not enough investment in the women's league, at least in America, to do this. A lot of the women's professional leagues (except the WNBA, which has DIRECT support from the NBA and despite this doesn't quite offer what European leagues offer women.) are just start-ups that last maybe a few years at most, especially soccer leagues. 

You mention Rousey as a fighter, but like Tennis, that's an individual sport. She's much more marketable since it's an individual sport. It's much easier to market and get visibility with her than say a team of soccer players that you only really hear about once every 3-4 years around World Cup Qualifying time.

Ronda Rousey is also the only female MMA fighter to get any recognition, that's an unfair comparison. Like Carlos said, she gets attention because she's an individual, but I don't know too many people that can even name 5 female MMA fighters off the top of their heads.
