Subject: The Lucha Underground thread. January 22nd 2015, 7:54 pm
Time to make a catch all thread for my personal favourite wrestling show in the game today, Lucha Underground. Honestly the biggest shock to me this week was what happened to Big Rick, I honestly didn't expect him to get betrayed, on a side note it's always a strange/amusing site when one black guy gets kicked out of stable and it's always one other colour ganging up on the black guy, like when Booker got kicked out of the NWO, it always seems racist when its not meant to be lol.
BTW that ref had it out for King Cueno, when he did that powerbomb the ref took like five count worth of time before starting, even Stryker said the crowd was so loud he couldn't hear the count when the truth was while the crowd was indeed loud, the ref hadn't started.
Little kids hate Sexy Star? Did anyone catch those two kids focused on after she won? They looked so serious and had sunglasses on(XD). I love her though.
The only issue with Lucha is that one flamboyant crossdresser dude, I'm sorry, being homosexual and all that stuff is fine, but stuff like this is just bad, I always dislike it be it him, Lady Gaga dancers or Adam Rose, its too embarrassing to watch. Like sometimes I want to watch Lucha on the bus at the back, but I can't take the chance that somehow someone gets the glimpse of it, even if its like a reflection of a window or outside, anything.
Anyways yeah, Lucha thread.

Why does Son of Havoc keep getting dispersed in random matches?

This week felt a little off for me. Probably because so many of the top names weren't even on the show. Opening match didn't really draw my attention, and I'm with you on hating the tranny. I don't know what LU is hoping for with that character, but I don't think he's funny at all. I think Mascarita Sagrada is alright, at least he can wrestle a bit and isn't a waste of space like Hornswoggle. Rick getting turned on was a good segment, and although it's odd for him to turn face so soon it's probably for his best interest since Cage is already the top heel big man since debuting last week.
Pentagon Jr is one of my favorite characters and I think he had a nice promo after his match. I think Chavo is feuding with like 4 different people right now so we'll see how far a feud with him can take him.
I like Sexy Star(r), and she's going to be one of the top faces in the company the way they push her and how most of the LU audience reacts for her. My only concern is how far she can actually go. Beating Chavo is one thing, but I can't see her beating guys like Puma or Mundo, or even putting up a fight against Cage.
Main event was good. Drago/Cuerno has delivered in all of their matches. My only problem is if that was the end to their feud, I wish it was a little more decisive. Cuerno should have completely choked him out with that rope or went back in the ring and finished him off.
Looking forward to the future of Lucha Underground and hope they can stay on TV. Been my favorite wrestling show since the first episode.

I don't know what to say about Cage ripping the title in half, at least it was by the strap and not the gold part that got torn, cause idk if that's taken as a display of his force or the cheapness of the title.

LU 1/28/15
Shit just got REAL on LU.. big ups for making this thread btw Jay
Awesome 6 man tag match btw, the first time i marked out for a 6 man tag team match in a LONG time. That hurricanrana spot by Aerostar was
I agree Jay, i have mixed feelings on Cage ripping the title. It really does make the title look cheap, like a big penny glued onto a piece of cheap fiber.
However the heat Cage draw was awesome. He even managed to get Konan into a sympathetic character. Konan fucking bladed! Wow! Isnt the guy like 50? Just great. And how about that asian chick? And the seeming struggle of Mil Muertes? Things are headed in a direction and yeah, business is picking up.
I still have a few questions though... Who's side is Cuerto on? Where is Johnny Mundo and what is he going to do with that key? How with Big Ryck respond to his goons betraying him? Obviously its gonna take patience, theres only one hour for the show.

Agreed with many things you said, but what do you mean by which side is Cuerto on?

Oh, like idk it seems like he's pretty "in" with Big Ryck and Konnan one day and the next he's like, smirking watching them get beat down from the confines of his office, and making backdoor deals.
I kind of had a hunch he had it out for Puma to begin with. The Big Ryck swerve was a little bit confusing though. I was thinking maybe Cuerto has a problem with Big Ryck having too much "authority" because he's a non luchador?
But in this case, he seemed a little too happy seeing Puma with the belt, although Puma is pretty much everything Cuerto could want out of a Champion (since I remember hes emphasized guys like Mundo, probably Americans in general, weren't the ''type'' of champion he wanted)
So Im just wondering where his ultimate premise lies. Is Cage the guy he wants as the man, even though Cage is a non luchador?
It's not a real "problem", but it is something I'd like fleshed out. What do you think?

Ah. Well I think for now the only people we could rely on being in his good side is the Crew.
For Konan and Puma, originally they were getting along until Puma would help Morrison so Ryck got Puma attacked for it and Konan wasnt happy with Cuerto so he accused him of attacking his boy Puma which Cuerto denied saying Ryck is the leader of the Crew and Konan even disrespectfully stole a drink from Cuerto at the end of the promo so that's where that friction came from.
I think the problem with Ryck is Ryck considered himself the boss and was called the boss, when obviously Cuerto thinks he should obey him more.
I doubt he'll get behind Cage since Cage damaged his title which he loves, he'll probably be an antagonist towards both Cage and Puma, or at they very least there will be hidden friction between him and Cage if they make a small term alliance.
It can get a bit complicated I guess, it isn't as clean cut as the Authority in wwe and just geting along with every heel.

I think you broke it down well, absolutely this is a far cry from WWE's cookie cutter face and heel shit, that goes without saying.
I do recall Cuerto wanting Fenix to take the title off of Puma, I knew from the get go he didnt like Puma tbh ever since he first started going side by side with Mundo.
I would like to see Cuerto find a heel he can ultimately invest his stock into in the long run. Like you said after Cage destroyed Lucha's prize possession, Cage is definitely not it. In fact its clear Cage doesnt give a shit about having any master or being on anyones side. To me Cuerto might need someone who can represent him and what his character stands for in the ring. Definitely doesn't have to be WWE's lame Authority shit, but who knows... Maybe this is where Del Rio fits in?

I am beginning to enjoy the show, but starting to get annoyed with few regular happenings. Every match has the Luchadores doing some kind of "bump" to make space between the competitors. with the exception that it kind of looks a bit horribly fake. There is always a group of wrestlers outside the ring and someone jumps in on them. Happens a bit too often. Other than that, great show. Simple storyline and fresh wrestling where the matches are not repetitive.

Aero Star is beast. I just wish LU had the AAA lighting structure so he could do this. Mostly cuz of how much it would annoy Ventura.

I think Cage just intimidates Cuerto with his size/strength. I don't think he likes him but he probably just doesn't want to cross him.
The title looked pretty cheap before Cage ripped it in half. Maybe they can get something cool looking because I feel like there is not much prestige.
I miss Mundo, but his absence the past few weeks has been good for Puma. Mundo is usually the focus of the show so him taking a few episods off has allowed Puma to get the main spotlight as well as Drago/Cuerno to basically get an episode to themselves.
I'm looking forward to the debut of Del Rio. I read his debut will probably line up to next Wednesday. Been trying to stay away from spoilers as much as possible and enjoy the pace of the show.

He's here, but you already know that.
Maybe I'm confused as fuck, or maybe I was blind, but that guy who faced Havoc this week, wasn't that the white guy in the fatal four way debut a few weeks back with Areostar and them? Because I thought it was, but then he got in the ring and looked like a fucking giant, and I don't remember that white guy being that tall and lanky. I hope to see what the ending means for Ivellise, honestly I think she deserves more in Lucha.
Drago did well as always. love em.
Morrison feuding with Cueno is bound to be awesome.
Is Lucha going to have too many monsters? There's Big Ryck, Mil Muertes and Cage, but now that person Cuerto was talking too seems like he might be a monster like character and I wonder if that's just over doing it, don't need that many big destroyer folks on such a small roster.

@Jay, Angelico was in that fatal four way match a few weeks back. I thought it was a decent match and I like that they're giving Ivellise something. Sexy Star was receiving a huge push and I think Ivellise deserves some kind of storyline even if it's just with Son of Havok for now.
I like that they continue to build up Pentagon. I'm really invested in his character, and even though he basically had a squash match against Famous B I think they're building him up for something better.
Drago and Aero Star had a great match. Drago could start competing for a main event babyface role in the future.
I loved the main event. So glad to see Mundo back and he did not disappoint. Cage is starting to impress me. He's not like any other big man out there and having never seen him wrestle before I was surprised. He isn't a luchador but he is working with these guys well. I LOVED the finish to the match. What looked like a DQ finish to the main event turned back into another suspenseful finish.
Mundo and Cueto continue to go at it, and I think Cuerno is a great feud for both of them right now. Cuerno is fresh off a feud with Drago and there needs to be a wrestler besides Cueto for Mundo to feud with. I don't think Cuerno is Cueto's "guy" but I think he is a great opponent for now.
Del Rio's debut was perfect, and I loved the interaction between him and Cueto. I know he was coming to Lucha and they still found a way to surprise me. I wasn't expecting to see him until next week, and almost missed it at the end of the show.
I know RRS isn't on the forums, but I can't wait to discuss the Catrina/Fenix seg with him.
@Jay, I think the three "monsters" they have right now is fine. If this mystery character turns out to be a big man/monster than I think they're pushing it, but we'll have to wait and see. The three guys they have now all play different roles. Muertes is the typical monster, but I think he's still got that lucha feel to him with the mask and character background. Rick seems more like a thug to me than a monster, and I'm assuming he's face now. Cage has the whole "I'M A MACHINE" thing going, and Mundo showed this week that he's not unstoppable and almost beat him even after injuring his leg.
Can't wait to see how Puma and Konnan respond to Cage.

What are your guys' thoughts on the last few episodes and the current feuds? Lot of "meh" episodes for me but the build up for these feuds are great imo.
Puma/Cage Mundo/Cuerno Alberto/Texano
Even the midcard stuff with Muertes/Fenix/Catrina, Drago/Aero Star, Rick/The Crew. Pentagon Jr is pushing to be one of my favs, love his build up and I'm eager to see who his "master" is and what feud he'll have in the future.

I agree there's been a lot of build but LU is done in a way that it's hard for me to see it getting stale. They have a huge roster for a 1 hour show to the point where sometimes we don't see guys for like 2 months which makes it more unpredictable. Pentagon Jr. has been on a lot lately and is even more badass than I remember him he might be my favorite wrestler right now if I picked favorites.

Everything is building up nicely, LU is showing great patience with what theyre doing and I can slowly see things starting to pay off. Pentagon JR is way more over than even they would have imagined, I can tell, judging by even the commentary's reaction to this.
The heat's definitely rising though, with that epic Konnan promo, Puma and Cage's inevitable clash again, Mundo/Cuerno in the cage. Things have gotten really hot right about now.
