It would have just given the south even more ambition and cause to be racist. I'm pretty sure the same situation would of happened, just roles reversed. One way or the other - the media has made this become a race issue. Opinions start forming, people get offended - and this is the aftermath - people at one another's throats. Welcome to the 21st Century - where racism still exists in the south still but is seen as taboo to mention such a fact.
