WWE 2002 - The Brand Extension

Zach Genesis Presents: WWE 2002 - The Brand Extension WWESDVSRAW
After the end of the Attitude Era and what could only be described as one of the biggest "What If's" in professional wrestling history with the Invasion Era (which unfortunately didn't go exactly to plan), WrestleMania X8 took place. Triple H was once again on top of the world as the WWE Undisputed Champion, The Rock stood triumphantly over Hulk Hogan in an act of "passing the torch", Stone Cold defeated Scott Hall, The Undertaker went 10-0 after defeating Ric Flair in a bloody, brutal match and many other important occurrences took place.

The WWF however were faced with a dilemma. Due to the abundance of WCW and ECW wrestlers floating around the WWF roster, a Brand Extension was called. Instead of having both Raw and Smackdown housing all roster members, the roster would be split directly down the middle. Wrestlers would be assigned to either Raw or Smackdown and would exclusively compete on that show. The Brand Extension took place on March 26th 2002 dividing the roster in two halves and this was the results.

“I know the pieces fit 'cause I watched them fall away...”

***PYRO***
***PYRO***
***PYRO***

And the entire Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum erupts with cheers as we prepare for another edition of Raw. Signs around include “Stone Cold Is Raw!”, “Brock Is Gonna Kill You!” and “Vince Sucks!”

JR: Ladies and gentlemen we are SOLD OUT from the beautiful Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum right here in Uniondale, New York as we are here for another episode of Monday Night Raw, 7 days removed from the first ever WWF Draft! Good Ol' JR, Jim Ross joined at ringside by none another than Jerry “The King”-

King: It's a travesty JR!

JR: What is King?

King: All of the big stars of Raw are off to that inferior blue brand Smackdown and it's a travesty! That idiot Vince McMahon stole all of them! He stole The Rock! He stole Triple H!

JR: Well first of all King, Vince is our chairman! Secondly Raw still has many notable stars! The Undertaker, Rob Van Dam, The Hardys and that's just to name a few!

King: But The Rock is a movie star JR! He's in Hollywood! And Triple H is the WWF Undisputed Champion! All we're stuck with a biker who looks like it's Halloween every day, some guy from Extremely Crappy Wrestling who's somehow our Intercontinental Champion and a bunch of daredevils!

JR: Well keep in mind that tonight Stone Cold Steve Austin! The Texas Rattlesnake! He will have to decide whether or not he'll go to the Raw brand or the Smackdown brand considering the fact that he was the one and only member of the WWF roster who wasn't assigned to a brand at last Monday's draft.

King: If he joins Smackdown JR, then I'm quitting again.

JR: Well that might be for the best King.

***GLASS SHATTERS***

And speak of the devil out comes Stone Cold Steve Austin and the entire arena goes berserk! Stone Cold Steve Austin walks out directly to the ring with a New York Hitmen XFL jersey plastered on as he storms out to the ring all business and no nonsense.

JR: BAH GAWD! STONE COLD IS HERE! STONE COLD! STONE COLD!

King: Alright calm down...this is probably the 300th time you've seen him...

JR: STONE COLD! Judgment day is here! It's decision time Ladies and Gentlemen!

The crowd is still extremely excited as Stone Cold Steve Austin paces the ring as he ascends the turnbuckles, doing his signature taunt of giving the crowd the reverse finger before he stands in the middle of the ring, microphone in hand.

Austin: You know I've been to meetings...

What!?

Austin:
And meetings...

What!?

Austin:
You know, meetings.

What!?

Austin: Talks with the big people.

What!?

Austin:
Talking. And the only thing I can say after all of that is...somebody better get Stone Cold a damn beer!

The crowd erupts into cheers as Austin gestures for some beer as a can gets thrown into the ring, Stone Cold catching and beginning to drink it. He finishes chugging the beer with it quickly being knocked down before he tosses the can behind him.

Austin: Now as I was saying.

What!?

Austin:
I said as I was saying.

What!?

Austin:
Both Ric Flair and Vince McMahon want me to sign to their shows. Now I can sign to Raw.

What!?

Austin:
Or Smackdown.

What!?

Austin:
Raw....

What!?

Austin:
Or Smackdown...
What!?

Austin:
So after Stone Cold did some thinking. Some wondering. Working out what's best for Stone Cold...I will be joining...

***ALSO SPRACH ZARATHUSTRA***

And before Stone Cold can finish his sentence the Raw owner Ric Flair is coming out here, all suited up as the crowd is once again up on their feet.

JR: Well here he is! The Raw Owner Ric Flair!

King: And in good time too! Raw has been saved JR! Stone Cold is going to sign to Raw and our owner Ric Flair is just out here to congratulate him!

Flair smiles to the crowd before he enters the ring with also a microphone in hand.
Flair: Wooo!!!

Wooo!!!

Flair:
I am so glad! SO glad to be here tonight in Uniondale, New York! And Stone Cold!

Flair turns to Stone Cold who looks less than impressed.

Flair: I would like to say welcome back to Monday Night Raw! WOO!

Stone Cold stares at Flair with a grin on his face before continuing.

Austin: Well thank you very, very much Ric.

King: This is the greatest day in the history of Raw JR!

JR: Well it's a great moment but I wouldn't exactly say--

Austin: But I haven't decided to return to Raw.

Flair just looks absolutely gobsmacked.

Austin: That's right Ric. And I'll tell you why that is--
***NO CHANCE IN HELL***

And that's right! Here we have the Smackdown owner Vince McMahon coming out to the ring! Vince is all smiles right now as he does his signature strut to the ring.

King: This is a disaster! We lost The Rock! We lost Triple H! And now we're going to lose Stone Cold!?

Vince: Austin! AUSTIN!

Vince is still smiles as he enters the ring. He puts his arm around Austin's shoulders – Austin obviously doesn't like this.

Vince: Now Austin...I know we've had our differences over the past few years.

Differences? Well at least he's acknowledging them.

Vince: But I'm glad that all differences aside, that you will be joining Triple H! Kurt Angle! Chris Jericho! The Rock! And you will be joining all of us on the Blue Brand...Smackdown.

There's a heavily mixed reaction in the crowd right now as Austin stares back at Vince.

Austin: Well thank you Vince. But I haven't decided go to Smackdown either.

Another big pop in the crowd.

King: What!?

Austin: The WWF Board Of Directors said Stone Cold has until the end of the night to decide so Stone Cold will decide at the end of the night AND THAT'S THE BOTTOM LINE BECAUSE STONE COLD SAID SO!

The crowd pops big time here.
Austin: So Stone Cold is going to relax tonight and get a couple of beers...

What!?

Austin:
Some whiskey.

What!?

Austin:
A bit of tequila.

What!?

Austin:
Not wine because I don't drink that pussy ass crap.

Another pop in the crowd.

Austin: And at the end of the night Stone Cold will tell you which brand he will be going to!

Flair: Well whilst we are all here you are currently on Raw tonight Stone Cold! That is MY SHOW! So while you are here I am booking your match and tonight we don't have a main event! So tonight it is going to be Stone Cold Steve Austin versus...THE UNDERTAKER! WOO!

Major pop.

Flair: And also bring up the Titantron!

Suddenly on the Titantron an 8 person tournament bracket kicks up and above the bracket it reads WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP.

Flair:
The World Heavyweight Championship is a belt that has belonged to many legends. Dusty Rhodes! Harley Race! Sting! And yours truly. So I hereby announce that as the Owner Of WWF Raw I am reinstating this belt! WOO!

The crowd echoes the woo as Austin and Vince stare at him.

Flair: And we'll have an 8 man tournament to crown our new champion with the final taking place at Backlash which is only 3 weeks away! So BRING UP THE BRACKET!

The bracket is brought up and we see the following pairings.
Brock Lesnar vs. Kane
William Regal vs. Jeff Hardy
Rob Van Dam vs. The Big Show
The Undertaker vs. Steve Austin

Flair: In preparation of you joining Monday Night Raw I have slotted you DIRECTLY into the tournament and if you choose to stay on Raw then tonight's match will be a Quarter Final match!

The crowd pops.

JR: Well that's smart on Flair's side. Giving Austin a chance to go for championship gold.

Austin: ...Right.

Vince: Austin! WAIT! That's if you stay on Raw. However if you choose to move to my show Thursday Night Smackdown then tonight's match against The Undertaker? If you win then you will become the No.1 Contender to Triple H's Title!

The crowd explodes.
King: He can't do that! That isn't fair!

JR: Well Smackdown is Vince's show, so he definitely has the right to.

Austin looks at the both of them.

Austin: I said I will let you know by the end of the night, so that's what I'll be doing.

Flair and Vince nod – respecting Austin's words.

Austin: Now how about all three of us have a beer and just relax until it's decision time? Come on, let Stone Cold get you two a beer.

Flair: Okay.

Vince: Alright.

And Stone Cold's theme echoes throughout the arena once again as Stone Cold gestures for two more beers that are thrown into the ring as the three of them drink.

JR: Stone Cold has less than two hours to decide on which brand he's going to go to! Raw has a new world title! So much will be going down tonight but coming up next is the first match of the World Heavyweight Championship tournament as the young up and comer Brock Lesnar takes on “The Big Red Machine” Kane! NEXT!

MATCH #1 | WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP | QUARTER FINAL
Brock Lesnar (w/Paul Heyman) vs. Kane

And after a fairly lengthy segment to kick off Raw this week we have the first match of the night pitting Brock Lesnar who's been unstoppable although only in his third week on the main roster, and The Big Red Machine Kane in a big powerhouse battle in the World Heavyweight Championship Tournament and right from the get go, we see what all the hype about is with Lesnar as he dominates directly from the opening bell.

Lesnar is poised like a machine during this entire bout repeatedly slamming Kane with shoulder thrusts into the turnbuckle, hitting Kane with a series of power moves including a monstrous belly to belly suplex that catapulted Kane across the ring with even Jim Ross and Jerry Lawler being shocked at how easy Lesnar is at dominating the 7 foot, 300 pounder.

Kane does has his moments where he attempts to come back including getting a back body drop on a running Lesnar towards him as well as connecting with a monster sidewalk slam. However, the veteran would not be victorious here as Lesnar's undefeated streak goes up to 3-0, where Lesnar countered a running Kane into a spinebuster, before hitting the F5 to get the 1, 2, 3 and advance to the semi-finals. Lesnar was quick out of the ring with Heyman celebrating in tow.

WINNER: Brock Lesnar (6:35)

Lesnar and Heyman make their way back up the ramp whilst Heyman is holding Lesnar's arm high.

JR: Lesnar is still undefeated in his third week here in the WWF, and he is showing no signs of slowing down.

King: Let's face it JR! Brock Lesnar is an unstoppable machine! Shame that the ECW nutjob Paul Heyman is representing him but Lesnar is a future superstar! Believe me!

JR: Well that remains to be seen, but I have no doubt in mind that Brock Lesnar is a fast riser on the roster. That's for sure.

Backstage now and we see Rob Van Dam being interviewed by Josh Matthews.

Matthews: Ladies and gentlemen, joining me at this time is none other than the current WWF Intercontinental Champion, Rob Van Dam.

The crowd pops as RVD enters the scene.

Matthews: Rob you are just moments away from defending your Intercontinental Title against William Regal in a Street Fight, what are your thoughts?

RVD smiles before speaking.

RVD: Well Josh, I'd like to first state that I'm glad to be hear in Long Island tonight.

Cheap pop for RVD.

RVD: But secondly I'm ready to face William Regal and trust me I had my start in professional wrestling at a little place called ECW...

Pop for ECW.

RVD: And they taught me a thing or two about swinging a chair or two. Point is you get better get ready Regal 'cos RVD 420 says that I'm going to kick your ass all over Uniondale because your ass is grass, and I'm gonna smoke it!

And just like that RVD exits the interview area...

***

Owner's office now as we see Ric Flair frantically talking on the phone.

Flair: Don't worry I'll make sure Austin will come to a decision tonight. [pause] Yes, I understand how important this is don't worry.

Suddenly we hear a knock on the door.

Flair: Someone's at the door, sorry I'll have to call you back. Come in!

The door opens up and we see it's none other than...Booker T!?

Flair: Booker! What can I do for you?

Booker T: What can ya' do for me? Well ya' can tell me why I ain't in the World Heavyweight Championship tournament!

Flair: Booker allow me to explain. There were only eight spots available and...

Booker T: And I ain't good enough? I don't deserve it? Lemme remind you real quick Ric. I am a FIVE TIME, FIVE TIME, FIVE TIME, FIVE TIME, FIVE TIME WCW World Heavyweight Champion!

Flair gets up out of his chair at this point and looks at Booker.

Flair: Well guess what Booker? I'm a FOURTEEN TIME, FOURTEEN TIME, FOURTEEN TIME WCW World Heavyweight Champion.

Booker looks a little bit shocked from Flair's response.

Flair: Now unfortunately there's nothing I can do for you regarding the World Heavyweight Championship until at least after Backlash, however I can give you a chance at the Intercontinental Championship then? You are a five time WCW World Heavyweight Champion after all.

Booker: Well what does that mean dawg?

Flair: It means that at Backlash you will face either Rob Van Dam or William Regal for the Intercontinental Title. Depends on who wins tonight. That's better than no title shot at all right?

Booker: Yeah...guess you're right.

Flair: Alright, well is that all?

Booker: Yeah. Guess so.

Flair: Alright oh yeah and one more thing....

Booker turns back around.

Flair: How would you feel about a match tonight? Just to see that you deserve that Intercontinental Title shot?

Booker: Now that's what I'm talkin' bout!

Flair: Great because your match starts now!

And before Booker could respond his theme music begins to play as he quickly makes his way out of Flair's office.

***

MATCH #2 | SINGLES MATCH
Booker T vs. Justin Credible

Justin Credible was once an ECW main eventer, but unfortunately in this match he served one purpose and one purpose only. The role of a jobber. The match was overall set up to be one for Booker to win and that was what the match ended up becoming. Despite Credible's overall efforts, Booker T was the one who prevailed on top.

Numerous highlights that occurred throughout included Booker T reversing a punch from Credible into an incredibly fast, high impact dragon whip and Credible trying to put forth a comeback but unfortunately to no avail. Booker was able to connect big time with the Scissor Kick in order to put Credible away and win by pinfall, getting momentum heading into Backlash.

WINNER: Booker T (4:19)

Following the match we head backstage where we see Brock Lesnar with his manager Paul Heyman walking focused down a corridor.

Heyman: You did it! You did it Brock! You are a machine! You are unstoppable. You are going to Backlash and you are winning that World Heavyweight Cham-

But Heyman is cut off short as Lesnar looks up at someone who is also walking down the corridor. Heyman looks up too. We don't know who the person they're staring at is until we hear a familiar Texan drawl...

???: Well son? You got a problem?

And the crowd erupts again as we clearly see it's none other than Stone Cold Steve Austin! Lesnar is about to walk over to Austin before Paul Heyman holds him back.

Heyman: Let me handle this.

Heyman steps up to Austin.

Heyman: Okay, now you listen to me “Stone Cold”, you might be “The Texas Rattlesnake.” You might be the toughest son of a bitch to ever compete in the WWF but let me make one thing clear. No one and I mean NO ONE has ever entered this company with the aggression...with the integrity...with the strength...and the ability that Brock Lesnar has.

Heyman steps even closer to Austin.

Heyman: So you can go to Smackdown and have your fun and games with Vince McMahon...The Rock...Triple H...Kurt Angle...or you can stay on Raw and eventually realise your worst nightmare and come face to face with “The Machine” Brock. Lesnar. Come on Brock. Let's go.

Heyman walks off as Lesnar walks in tow before staring at Austin. Austin stares back at him and the two stare down at each other before Lesnar leaves. Austin looks back at shakes his head before he continues walking down.

MATCH #3 | INTERCONTINENTAL CHAMPIONSHIP | STREET FIGHT
Rob Van Dam © vs. William Regal

Right from the get go here, Regal is on top, drilling RVD directly with a Lou Thesz Press directly from the second the bell was rung. William Regal being the technician he is, quickly begun to work over RVD's leg hitting a series of locks and holds on it before sliding out of the ring and dragging RVD with him. Although Regal tried to whip RVD into the barricade, the Whole Dam Show countered it, and sent Regal colliding into it instead.

The two continued to brawl amongst the outside before RVD laid Regal down on to the ground and attempted to hit a moonsault off of the announce table but Regal dodged it, leading to RVD to land directly on his gut. RVD got back up but Regal clocked him with the brass knuckles, and slid him back into the ring, only for Van Dam to kick out at a two count.

The match continues between the two men until the finish. Regal looks like he's stolen the match here clocking RVD with a chair. However just as Regal is about to go down for the Regal Stretch onto Van Dam, RVD directly counters the move into an Inside Cradle, getting the pinfall and ultimately retaining the belt, meaning that RVD and Booker T are facing off against each other at Backlash!

WINNER: Rob Van Dam (10:42)

And of course Regal is in shock over the end of the match as he's trying to argue with the ref about what just took place. RVD makes his way back up the ring celebrating by showcasing the signature thumb taunt before he gets HIT FROM BEHIND BY BOOKER T!

JR:
What the hell is going on here!?

King: Well I think it's Booker T JR!

JR: Well we can see that.

And the current #1 contender for the Intercontinental Championship is already hammering away on the current champion RVD throwing a series of strikes before Irish whipping him directly into the steel steps as RVD topples over them!

JR: Now that is enough!

Booker T ends the assault here by smashing RVD with a Book End directly on the outside of the arena floor before he gets a mic and speaks to a downed Rob Van Dam.

Booker T: At Backlash...I'm comin' for the gold...sucka.

And Booker T's theme plays throughout the arena as he throws the mic down before picking up Van Dam's title and holding it up.

JR: Well looks like Booker T has tried to send a message here King that come Backlash, he isn't holding back.

King: Come on JR! Booker T is going to show RVD that he better not mess with a five time WCW Champion!

JR: We know that currently Booker T can talk the talk, but in less than 3 weeks time in Indianapolis we'll see if he can also walk the walk and become the new Intercontinental Champion. Meanwhile still to come folks tonight's main event! Stone Cold Steve Austin goes one on one with The Undertaker and also he'll decide whether or not he'll stay on Raw or Smackdown!

We see a dark lit area as we see the silhouette of a man wearing a suit.

???: Allow me to introduce myself.

The man walks up to the camera and smiles.

???: My name is Randy Orton.

He keeps walking as he smirks when a hand from nowhere gives him a glass of champagne. He takes a quick sip before handing it back.

Orton: And I'm used to the....finer things in life.

A woman in a dress walks up to him and immediately links arms with him.

Orton: And when I arrive in the WWF...

He stops as we see a stunning Lamborghini in front of him before he grabs a pair of car keys before opening the car and leading the lady in.

Orton: The whole world better...get...ready.

MATCH #4 | DIVA'S TAG TEAM
Trish Stratus and Jacqueline vs. Lita and Jazz

Fun, fast paced divas tag match between the four. Trish and Lita, the two rivals, kicked the match off here showing great athleticism. Lita got a quick near fall right from the get-go, nailing a nice bridging German only for Trish to get out of it. Lita and Trish continue a back and forth battle before Lita grabs onto Trish and pulls her to the corner – tagging out to Molly who steps in and takes over here.

Molly and Trish have a great bout here, dishing blows back and forth as Jazz connects with the a big time lariat, whilst Trish hits a big time bulldog as the sound of Jazz hitting the canvas echoes throughout the ring. Both divas end up taking each other out with a simultaneous clothesline leading to both Jazz and Trish to call over and make the quick hot tag as Jacqueline fires herself into the ring taking down Lita in quick succession. However, Jacqueline's fight wouldn't be enough at the end of the day as the Women's Champion distracts Trish on the outside whilst Lita connects with the Lita DDT for the victory.

WINNERS: Lita and Jazz (5:08)

Backstage once again as we see Trish Stratus post match drinking a water bottle and cooling off whilst she's talking to both Matt and Jeff Hardy.

Jeff: You did great out there tonight.

Trish: Thanks. Didn't get the win though.

Matt: Well you know what they say. You win some, you lose some.

Jazz enters the scene all of a sudden staring at Trish before staring at The Hardys.

Jazz: Can you two leave us alone!?

Jeff: You'll be okay Trish?

Trish: Yeah I'll be fine.

Matt: Alright, see ya.

The Hardys leave as Trish and Jazz face off against one another.

Trish: You wanted to talk to me?

Jazz: Yeah I did. This belt you see right here? The WWF Women's Championship? You're not going to see it ever again. As long as I'm still champion.

Trish: Is that a threat?

Jazz: No. It's a damn promise. I'm warning you bitch. Burn me, and you will get burned.

Jazz marches off whilst Trish looks on in confusement.

Final segment of the night here as we see The Undertaker backstage warming up and getting ready.

JR: It's finally main event time King! The Undertaker and Stone Cold are going head to head!

King: I can't wait JR! This is going to be a great match and what will make it even better is when Stone Cold wins the match and then signs to Raw with Flair! It's going to be great!

JR: This main event plus Stone Cold's decision coming up NEXT on Monday Night Raw!

MAIN EVENT | SINGLES MATCH
The Undertaker vs. Stone Cold Steve Austin

As the match starts the two men stare each other down before going directly into a collar-and-elbow tie-up. Taker gets the upper hand pushing Austin directly into the turnbuckle before he hits a series of strikes. With Austin seemingly dazed and out of it, Taker runs back and prepares to connect with a big boot before Austin dives out of the way, and begins to return a brawling onslaught of his own.

The match continues onwards with both men not budging an inch when suddenly
Ric Flair comes down to the ring and watches from ringside! This momentarily distracts Austin for a bit as Taker hits a Chokeslam on the Texas Rattlesnake however Austin kicks out when The American Bad Ass goes for the pin. Austin and Taker continue a very strong, brawler style match-up. Austin even connects with the Stunner whilst Vince McMahon walks out! As Austin is about to pin The Undertaker, he notices Vince and gets up and demands what he's doing here causing Austin to nearly lose again after a quick roll-up from The Undertaker!

Eventually the bout winds down and Austin is able to get the victory here, pinning The Undertaker after reversing the Tombstone Piledriver into not one, but
two Stunner's in order to get the pin.

WINNER: Stone Cold Steve Austin (13:47)

Austin celebrates post-match with his signature taunt in the middle of the ring as both Ric and Vince enter the ring, clapping their hands for Stone Cold.

JR: Austin has won the match! Austin is victorious! But it's decision time!

King: Please don't make a dumb decision Austin! The right choice is obvious!

Austin stands in the middle of the ring, looking at both Flair and Vince.

Austin: Somebody get Stone Cold another. DAMN. BEER!

The crowd cheers as Stone Cold once again receives his precious beer as he begins to chug it down.

Austin: So Stone Cold has to make a decision.

What!?

Austin:
I said Stone Cold has to make a decision!

What!?

Austin:
And after some tequila.

What!?

Austin:
Some Budweisers.

What!?

Austin:
Some whiskey.

What!?

Austin:
And after kicking The Undertaker's ass all around Long Island!

Half of the crowd echo the “What!?” chant whilst there is a quick cheap pop for the mention of Long Island.

Austin: Stone Cold Steve Austin has decided...to JOIN SMACKDOWN!

The crowd explode into a very mixed reaction here as Flair looks upset whilst Vince has a massive grin on his face. Austin walks up to Vince who hands him a Smackdown contract and a pen as Stone Cold prepares to sign it.

JR: What!?

King: NO! THIS IS A DISASTER! TOLD YOU THIS WOULD HAPPEN JR! RAW IS DOOMED!

Austin: Oh and Vince? One more thing. April Fool's you son of a bitch!

And immediately Austin hits Vince with a stunner! The crowd erupts into massive cheers as Austin walks over to Flair, grabs the Raw contract and a pen and signs it whilst The Nature Boy has a massive smile on his face.

Austin: Don't make me regret this Ric.

Austin hands the contract back to Flair who smiles and shakes Stone Cold's hand. Austin gestures for another beer and passes it to Flair who both begin to drink up.

JR: STONE COLD HAS SIGNED TO RAW! STONE COLD IS STAYING ON MONDAY NIGHTS!

King: The Texas Rattlesnake has chosen the number 1 brand in sports entertainment!

Austin and Flair continue to drink as Austin suddenly hits Flair with a stunner to a massive pop! Stone Cold continues to celebrate in the middle of the ring as Raw draws to a close.

Zach Genesis Presents: WWE 2002 - The Brand Extension WWE-Logo-wwe-18034671-200-200

NEWS AND UPDATES
- Regarding the sudden name change from the WWF to the WWE on Raw this past Monday night, it appears that the company has lost a lawsuit battle with the World Wildlife Fund, and will therefore be permanently rebranding themselves as World Wrestling Entertainment from here on in, with no more references being made to the WWF name here on in.

- It's been announced that both Allen Jones (WCW's Air Styles) and Dan Sowold Jr. (who competes on the independent circuit as Austin Aries) have both signed developmental deals with the WWE and will be reporting to the HWA territory effective immediately. Jones is scheduled to make his main roster debut rather quickly, potentially after Summerslam this year. There is no estimate to when Sowold will make his WWE debut.

- Another interesting note is the fact that Backlash 2002 is being billed as "Raw Presents". This is because due to the recent brand extension, WWE management have decided to split the PPV's up between the brands to allow A) more time for individual brands to showcase matches and B) more time for brands to build to the big PPV's. Raw and Smackdown will only collide four times a year at the billed, "Big Four PPV's" which are Royal Rumble, WrestleMania, Summerslam and Survivor Series.
