| So unsurprisingly, Ajit Pai and the other 2 Republican dipshits on the FCC Board voted to repeal Net Neutrality rules, and with a 3-2 simple majority vote, the repeal has gone through it's first stage.
Now while Net Neutrality has been overturned, there are still more legislative processes for the repeal to go through before the repeal takes effect in totality.
While in a perfect world, more people should have stepped up earlier, it isn't too late just yet.
Many of our Congressmen have taken buyouts from telecom companies - think about it, they sold the fucking internet for chump change, you're looking at buyouts as low as $1000. That's what these motherfuckers sold their votes for.
It is at this point where we must establish that under no circumstances are we going to re-elect these corrupt bastards back into their seats in the Senate. If the free internet being at risk isn't enough to rally our generation together, idk what possibly can.
So what can we do?
1) Text "resist" to 504-49. Go through the introductory text messages, don't hesitate to give them your information, it's perfectly safe. They just need your name really. Might ask for your address, I don't really remember as I signed up a while ago. Takes about two minutes to send letters to your congressmen. A good pre-written message to send is this;
"Net Neutrality is the cornerstone of innovation, free speech and democracy on the Internet. Control over the Internet should remain in the hands of the people who use it every day. The ability to share information without impediment is critical to the progression of technology, science, small business, and culture. Please stand with the public by protecting Net Neutrality once and for all.”
2) Go to this website: www.battleforthenet.com It basically does the same thing as the ResistBot, for those of you old bastards without phones.
3) Above all, just stay informed. Keep following the Net Neutrality news, because this WILL affect all of you in one way or another, whether or not you THINK it does doesn't matter. It's a fact.
It's a shame that this is the reality of the world we live in, but the best we can do is try to change it. If anyone has more information regarding this situation, please add to this thread. Otherwise do what you can, or honestly, you're just a part of the problem. |

| Copying from Reddit: The FCC just voted to repeal all existing net neutrality protections. They are giving giant ISPs like Verizon and Comcast the power to control what we can see and do online with new fees, throttling, and censorship. This will ruin the fundamentally open nature of the internet. This fight isn’t over though, there is still a clear path to victory.The organizations behind Battle For The Net are launching a new campaign to demand that Congress step in and restore net neutrality via Congressional Review Act (CRA). The CRA let’s our elected officials in Congress overrule actions taken by Federal agencies like the FCC. And it’s different from a normal bill because it only requires a simple majority in the Senate and House to pass. Given the level of public backlash and polls showing that 83% of voters from across the political spectrum oppose the FCC’s plan, and given that several Republicans have already started to publicly criticize the FCC vote, we have a real chance to making this happen. But it won’t be easy, and it can only happen within 60 legislative days of the order going into effect.We can’t stop now. Contact your reps today and demand that they preserve net neutrality through Congressional Review Act You’ll see a script on your screen, or you can say something like this: - Quote :
- I support Title II net neutrality, and I urge you to use the Congressional Review Act to pass a “resolution of disapproval” reversing the FCC’s December vote to repeal the Open Internet Order.”
You can also text BATTLE to Text "BATTLE" to 384-387 to use a simple chat-bot to send a message to your lawmakers.We can still win this. Even if you’ve already contacted your reps, now is the time to call them again. We need all hands on deck. Please, take a moment and make the call, then spread the word, sticky this post, or help drive traffic to https://www.battleforthenet.com/ |

| This sucks. I'm not sure how much this is gonna affect someone like me in Canada, but it's a scary, scary thing that this vote went down the way it did. |

Fortunately for you, your government has reaffirmed their stance on keeping Net Neutrality rules in place. The American government could really learn a lot from our neighbors up north. |
